Hydronumerical Consultancy Services (HCS) is a young engineering consulting company. We are experts in applying numerical modeling techniques to produce actionable insight into many kinds of engineering problems related to fluids.
At HCS, we don't just blindly build models; we implement a problem-first approach.
Under this approach, the focus is first on understanding what the engineering questions are that need answering. We then evaluate what processes and scales need to be represented in order to answer those questions as simply and accurately as required. Finally, we pick the best modeling software for the job. Sometimes this is a license-free or commercial software; but sometimes a custom modeling solution is needed.

Fluvial and coastal modeling
We build accurate simulations of riverine and coastal systems at multiple scales.
Depending on the problem at hand, we use 1D, 2D or 3D models to represent:
- River hydraulics.
- Flood propagation.
- Dam break analysis.
- Coastal and estuarine hydrodynamics.
- Sediment transport.
We use state-of-the-art software like Delft3D, TELEMAC, Mike+, and HEC-RAS, along with our own in-house tools.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling
We provide detailed fluid dynamics analysis for civil infrastructure, machinery and industrial processes.
Our CFD services include:
- Analysis of flow around structures.
- Optimization of hydraulic elements.
- Intake/outfall design.
- Dynamic mesh simulations.
- Oil & Gas simulations.
Powered by OpenFOAM & tailored in-house tools. We have both the expertise and the computational resources to run large-scale CFD simulations efficiently, either on our in-house servers or in a High-performance cluster.

Water Quality Modeling
Water Quality modeling allows to track the movement, transformation and fate of pollutants in surface waters.
We model processes such as:
- Contaminant modeling.
- Dissolved Oxygen - BOD dynamics.
- Nutrient dispersion.
- Thermal plumes.
We use advanced software like Delft3D, DELWAQ and ECOLAB to model water quality processes.

Hydrology
We do watershed-scale modeling of rainfall-runoff and surface flows.
Our hydrology services include:
- Urban & rural catchments.
- Surface water-ground water interaction.
We use state-of-the-art software like HEC-HMS, SWMM, and our own in-house tools to model hydrological processes. According to the project needs, we use lumped models (HEC-HMS, NAM) or distributed ones (Modflow, Mike SHE, Itzí, SWMM).

Angel Menéndez, Ph.D.
Senior ExpertAngel Menéndez is the senior expert at HCS, with over 40 years of experience in hydraulic modeling and water resources management. He has worked on numerous international projects, providing expertise in fluvial and coastal modeling.
Angel holds a Ph.D. in Hydraulic Engineering and has published extensively in the field. His work focuses on applying advanced numerical methods to solve complex hydraulic problems, ensuring best modeling practices.
At HCS, Angel leads the strategic direction of our hydraulic modeling projects, ensuring that we deliver high-quality, reliable results to our clients. His extensive experience and deep understanding of hydraulic systems make him an invaluable asset to our team.

Nicolás Diego Badano, Dr. Eng.
Senior EngineerNicolás is a senior engineer at HCS, specializing in Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and hydraulic modeling.
With a Doctorate in Engineering, Nicolás has over 15 years of experience in applying advanced numerical methods to solve complex fluid dynamics problems. He has worked on a wide range of projects, from urban flood modeling to coastal hydrodynamics.
At HCS, Nicolás leads our CFD and hydraulic modeling efforts, ensuring that we deliver accurate, reliable simulations that meet the needs of our clients. His expertise in both commercial and open-source CFD tools allows us to tackle a wide range of engineering challenges efficiently.
